Rujuta Vaidya, who has worked in the Bollywood industry for the past 10 years as a professional dance choreographer, recently choreographed the famed Slumdog Millionaire (O Saya and Jai Ho) and Wall-E performance at the 81st Annual Academy Awards in LA in February 2009. She was responsible for bringing together A.R. Rahman, John Legend and the beautiful dancers in their colorful garb, resplendent glory and graceful moves as she trained, choreographed, guided and mentored them into history books for the first ever Bollywood performance at the Oscars. Following the big show, she was also the first Bollywood choreographer to creatively decorate Oprah Winfrey’s stage with these fascinating dancers and prior to the Oscars, was one of the few chosen artists to choreograph a Bollywood piece for Britney Spears’ current “Circus Tour” to the tune of her hit song “Me Against the Music.” You can view her introductory video on Britney Spears’ official website www.britneyspears.com. Ruj is a highly accredited and globally-recognized Bollywood-style choreographer who has been responsible for some of the biggest Bollywood musical extravaganzas in the entertainment industry. With choreography credits that include the Academy Awards, Britney Spears’ The Circus tour and the Disney-released Cheetah Girls 3 – One World, Ruj has emerged as a leading influence in the world of contemporary Bollywood dance. She has also released a hip-hop – Bollywood dance workout video called BYOU 2 (www.byou.com) that has her collaborating with Sabrina Bryan of the Cheetah Girls on a dance instructional video for young girls that blends both styles from the east and the west. While her training includes a rigorous study in the classical forms of Indian dancing such as Kathak and Bharatnatyam, Ruj has fine tuned her skills under the tutelage of famed hip-hop choreographer Fatima Robinson (choreographer of Michael Jackson, Prince, Fergie, and Rhianna) and the legendary Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan (Tezaab, Mr. India, Devdas, Taare Zameen Par, etc) to develop her own spin on Bollywood dance. Most recently Ruj has collaborated on several Bollywood productions including Tara Rum Pum, Jaaneman, Rocky and Good Boy Bad Boy.
